NHS Dental Care

NHS Dental Treatment

At Kilbarchan Dental Practice we are pleased to provide NHS dental care alongside our private services. NHS dentistry focuses on maintaining good oral health through examinations, preventive care and essential dental treatment.

NHS Charges in Scotland

Dental charges for NHS treatment in Scotland are set nationally by the Scottish Government through the Statement of Dental Remuneration (SDR).

For patients who are not exempt, the NHS generally covers 80% of the cost of treatment, with patients paying the remaining 20% contribution.

There is also a maximum patient charge of £384 per course of treatment, meaning you will never pay more than this amount for a single course of NHS care.

Free NHS Dental Care

You may be entitled to free NHS dental treatment if you:

• Are under 26 years old

• Are pregnant or have had a baby within the last 12 months

• Receive certain qualifying benefits or income support

Our reception team will be happy to advise you if you are unsure about your eligibility.

Dental Examinations

Dental examinations are free for all patients in Scotland, whether you pay NHS charges for treatment or not.

Regular check-ups allow us to monitor your oral health and identify any problems early.

NHS and Private Treatment

NHS treatment covers care that is clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy and functional.

Some treatments, particularly those focused on cosmetic improvement or advanced materials, may only be available on a private basis. If this applies, your dentist will always discuss the options with you and provide a clear treatment plan before any treatment begins.

Our Approach

Our team will always explain the most appropriate treatment options for your individual needs and help you decide whether NHS or private care is the best choice for you. f you have any questions about NHS treatment or charges, Geraldine or Diane on reception will be happy to help.
